  1. Tosh…I really admire your perseverance. I jumped ahead and have made hard copies of some of the docs you had listed.

    Best,
    Sharon Scarborough

  2. Yes, I want to continue to be a member of NIP. I would enter a Captcha code except I wasn’t given one. But I am not a robot.

Thanks for all your hard work, Tosh. I’m sorry to be so slow about this. You deserve better responses for all your hard work.

  3. Thank you for including me even though I haven’t been able to attend the meetings for a while. I’ve got a few too many balls I’m trying to juggle but look forward to returning to the NIP group once things settle down. 😃

  4. I’ve completed the first proof-read draft of my first novel in the comedic fiction genre. While I have received critique from some paid beta readers, a member of a novelist Facebook group has strongly recommended that I reach out to a local author’s critique group for help and guidance in completing the re-writing process to ensure I self-publish a quality final product of which I am proud.

  5. Hiya – I attended the 1/26 session as a guest and really enjoyed it. I’d like to join NIP because I started writing a novel, and I could really use deadlines and feedback as incentives to keep going. My experience is limited to writing a couple screenplays and shooting an indie feature that I co-wrote. Thanks!

  6. I am 56 years old avid rpg gamer and sci-fiction fan. I am as of yet unpublished. My writing has been generally well revived but I’m bad at finishing things, which I am trying to change.
I’m currently working on a sci-fi/fantasy novel and would like a critique group to get and share feedback with.

    • Thanks for your interest in NIP–Austin, Raymond. I’ll be sending you an email this weekend, and We look forward to meeting you. Best, Tosh McIntosh, Moderator.

  7. 34 year old registered dental hygienist, mommy to a cutesy 8 month old, and aspiring author! I’ve been in and out of writing for the past ten years. I have two things I’m working on and I’m kind of just stuck. I’d love to hear people’s feedback to rework some of my writing.

  8. My name is Dinu and I work for a nonprofit, but hoping to become a published writer soon. I’m working on my first novel and would love to connect with fellow writers to exchange feedback. Looking forward to connecting!

  9. Hi my name is Rebecca and I’m an Austin native.

I wrote an novel(historical fiction) and had it reviewed by an editor I hired. I’m working on the re-writes currently for Book 1. Once B1 is complete, I’ll work on re-writes for Book 2 (80% complete). The editor is no longer available for various reasons. The idea for the novel originally came from a scene I wrote for a screenplay writing class, which I took a couple of years ago. I have several other short stories in draft form along with a second novel (the first I wrote, also unpublished) that need to be revised. Both novels and the short stories will be transitioned into screenplays.

    • Thanks for your interest in NIP–Austin, Rebecca. We look forward to meeting you (virtually) at our next Zoom meeting, and hope you can join us. Please be on the lookout for the invitation, E-submission we are critiquing, and the meeting handout. And don’e hesitate to contact me with any questions.

  10. My name is Sarah Hogue, and I hope my message finds that you have moved your work online. I am currently in the beginning stages of writing a historical fiction novel and would love to create some synergy with fellow writers. I am looking to check out one of your meetings and experience your process. You can reach me at: sahogue@htu.edu

    • Thanks for your interest in NIP-Austin, Sarah. I’m sending you The E-submission, meeting handout, and Zoom invitation for our next Online roundtable session on July 26, 2020. We look forward to seeing

  11. I’m a writer and musician here in Austin. I’m currently 65K words into my first novel. I write songs and short stories in between

I’d like to meet other writers, find a community of writers in Austin, improve my writing and push my fiction novel forward.

    • Thanks for your interest in NIP-Austin. I will send you an email with an invitation to our next online session, with the e-Submission and meeting handout. We look forward to meeting you.

  12. Hello,

I am a freelance writer who does quite a bit of ghostwriting. My work has been published in BirdWatching Magazine, Best Poets of 2019, Upon Arrival, and several other publications. I am currently working on revising a romance novel and would greatly appreciate feedback on it. I was thrilled when I came across this wonderful writing group!

    • Thanks for your interest in NIP-Austin, Hilah. We’d love to have you join us, but we don’t critique short fiction.

  13. I would like to get my writing polished and into a state of being ready to be published. I self published a novella before years ago, but since removed it from amazon since I think I can do a better job of getting my ideas into a book. I am now writing a script, but will begin brainstorming for a new novel. I would love to sit in to one of your meetings!

    • We appreciate your interest in NIP–Austin, Relvin. I will be sending you an invitation for our meeting tomorrow and hope to see you there.

  14. I’d like to join this group. My name is Ellie Samuels. I am working on my first novel. It’s fiction, a romance novel. I am looking for a group to provide feedback on my writing and I’d like to do the same for other writers.

    • We appreciate your interest in NIP–Austin, Ellie. I will be sending you an invitation for our meeting tomorrow and hope to see you there.

I have been working on a novel for the last decade and find it difficult to consistently keep up progress on it. I feel like a writing group would help me stay focused. I’m also excited to read others work and get critiques on my own.

    • Thanks for your interest in NIP-Austin, Nathan. I will be sending you a Zoom Invitation and meeting handout for September 27, 2020. We look forward to meeting you.

  16. Hello, I’d like to join this group. My info is below.

    Daniel Young
    daniel.young1979@gmail.com

I live in Austin, Texas and work as an Instructional Designer developing training material for a large grocery retailer. Prior to that (ages ago) I worked as a video game designer, writing narratives and world history for a fantasy RPG. Writing has always been something I’ve loved and I’ve written three manuscripts (all unpublished). I’d like to change that and make the transition from an Instructional Designer, to a published YA author.

    • We’d love for you to join us in pursuit of your goal, Daniel. I will be sending you a welcome email from mail@novelinprogressaustin.com. Please reply to it as confirmation of your email address, and I’ll forward the Zoom Invitation, E-submission, Story So Far (a synopsis of previous submissions), and Meeting Handout for our next Roundtable. We look forward to meeting you.

        Haley Hottinger
        haley.hottinger419@gmail.com

I am an Austin resident who is working at a grocery store. When I am not working, and sometimes even when I am, I spend my time musing stories that see the world a little differently. I always seem to have various ideas to write about, but never the direction to commit them on paper. I would like to join, so I can get my thoughts on to paper.

        • We appreciate your interest in NIP-Austin, Haley. 17. Hello NIP,

I’ve been writing most of my later teen and adult life, definitely in waves. I’ve gathered a small body of work that I feel I could move forward with and publish and I’m looking to get involved with other writers who have similar ambitions.

    Thank you,
    Evan

    • You’ve found the right place to reach your goals, Evan, and we would love to have you join us. I will be sending you a welcoming email from mail@novelinprogressaustin.com. 18. For the past four years my life has revolved around writing a historic fiction. It centers on women’s rights, 1877-1900, Switzerland. I’ve immersed myself in books about writing, taken many WLT classes and workshops, attended two WLT Conferences and, for a column I write, I’ve interviewed numerous, local authors. The first draft of my book was 189k words. Now, as I machete down the details and tighten up the action, input I can respect would be valued.

    • Thanks for your interest in NIP–Austin, and we look forward to meeting you. I will be sending you a welcoming email from mail@novelinprogressaustin. Please reply to it, and I will follow up with the Zoom invitation and meeting handout for our next session.

  19. Greetings! My name is Ryan and I am a storyteller, teaching artist, and level 10 Bard from the College of Lore. I’m currently working on the second draft of a novel but I’ve also written short stories, stage and screenplays and comics. I feel like the thing missing from my life is a consistent community of other writers so I would be very grateful to join this group. Thanks!

  20. Hello, NIP. Sorry if this is a duplicate post but my previous post does not appear to have gone through from what I can see. Anyway, my name is Ryan. I write stories and I’m hoping a group like this can help me improve my craft and also help my get more of my work out into the world.

  21. Hi! I’m Robin, and I’m about to finish my 5th novella for NaNoWriMo. My other 4 first drafts are collecting dust on my hard drive and I’m struggling to find the motivation to do the next steps. This group seems like great motivation/guidance! I also don’t really know any writers in Austin. I work in tech so most of my social life revolves around other software engineers. Hope to meet y’all soon 🙂

    • Thanks for your interest in NIP–Austin, Robin.

  25. Hello,
First of all English is my second language. I have a little experince in novel writing in my native tougue and just started an English novel. I am shy and lack of confidence, so I would need and appreciate a lot of support. =)

    • For what it’s worth, I’ve published three novels in my native tongue, and I can’t even begin to imagine how much work it would take to write a novel in a second language. =;^)

We won’t be conducting a roundtable critique of a member’s submission next Sunday, but I’ll email you with the invitation and meeting handout for what we call an alternate format session, in which we use a less-structured, open discussion on topics suggested by members.

      Hope you can join us.

My name is Jaimie Pitts. My email is pitts.jaimie@gmail.com. I’m 27 and just graduated from Texas State University in May. I was in a few writing groups in college that really helped me stay motivated, inspired and improving, and I’m trying to find a new group for the same reasons! I’ve only written short fiction so far, but am thinking about starting a novel or novella in the very near future.

    • Congrats on earning your degree, Jamie, and thanks for your interest in NIP-Austin. I will send you a welcome email from mail@novelinprogressaustin.com. 29. Hi, my name is Lily Chien-Davis. My email is clily@mac.com
I’ve been working on a novel for a few decades, wrote many different versions and now have a manuscript I am rewriting and revising.
I’m hoping to be inspired and motivated amongst other writers to finally finish what I started. Currently, I’m reading Bryn Donovan’s Blank Page to Final Draft as a way to motivate myself to move towards the finish line. She suggested in her book to find beta readers by doing an “online search for your city and ‘writing group'” — that’s how I stumbled across this group. 🙂

    • We’re glad you found us, Lily. Please be on the lookout for a welcoming email from mail@novelinprogressaustin.com and reply to it as confirmation of your email address. I will follow up with the Zoom Invitation, E-submission, Story So Far (which summarizes the first 10 chapters of the novel being critiqued), and Meeting Handout for our August 8, 2021 online session. I’d love to come observe a group and potentially join!

I’m a writer and educator who recently moved back to Austin from teaching abroad. I’ve published extensively as a poet, have an MFA in poetry from Texas State and have taught creative writing classes for over a decade. I’m currently writing a YA novel set in Texas and am looking for a writer’s group to collaborate with – I’m happy I found this group from a google search! I’m looking forward to learning more.

    Thanks,

My name is Jin Tao and my email is taojin.ghc18@gmail.com.

I recently relocated to Austin and hope to improve my writing. I used to write casually in undergrad but paused later. I want to keep it up. Most of the writing I did in the past 6 years was academic writing (still need great improvement) and I hope to explore more about creative writing and storytelling. I am also interested in meeting new people and learning from them.

    Thank you,
    Jin

    • Hi Jin, and thank you for your interest in NIP–Austin. Based on your description of what you are looking for, I can say without reservation that we can provide it.

  45. Hey, I’ve been considering joining a writing group for some time now to encourage myself to write more regularly (and to avoid burdening my friends with providing as much feedback on my writing). This group sounds like a good fit for me, so I’d be interested in attending some sessions.

    Thanks,

  46. Hi, apologies if this is a duplicate post. I posted a few days ago hoping to join the group for the next meeting, but I didn’t receive an email response, not even in my spam folder. 48. Hi-

My Name is Teri Harwood. I wrote a bunch of short stories that I’m working to turn into Book 1 of a trilogy. I’m looking to connect to other writers in Austin to learn from and ask questions. It’s a hard pursuit to do in isolation.

    • Hi Teri,

  49. Hello,

I have a BA in literature and a master’s degree in anthropology. I have been working on a novel for years and long considered doing an MFA. This group sounds like a great way to participate in the community of writers in Austin. I would very much like to join in. Thanks!

  50. Hello! I am in the process of writing my third novel and would love feedback and to build a community of writers in Austin.

    Thanks for your consideration!

  51. I am a retired army officer and historian. I have written two works of history and edited a third. I am on the third draft of a historical novel about Grant in the early Civil War. I could greatly benefit from the expertise and enthusiasm of this community.

  52. All of my jobs have included non-fiction writing and editing and my skills there are very good. Now retired, I am working on my first fiction writing project which I think will be mystery novel. I have been progressing in spurts with long intervals of nothing. I’d like to get some external stimulation and learn better work habits from people who are farther along or finished with such a project. Eager to meet published novelists and learn from them.

  53. I’ve recently finished the first draft of a YA mystery and am now looking for some outside feedback to help me sharpen my work. While I spend my days copywriting for big brands and startups like YouTube, Keeps, and SpoiledChild, this is my first real foray into fiction. I’m also new to Austin, and would love to join a community of fellow creatives.
    Thanks so much!

  54. Hi Tosh, I was referred to your writer’s group by Laura Adamson. I live in Austin (next door to Laura) with my husband and we are moving to Seattle this summer. I’ll be 36 in June and I’ve worked for the state of Texas in contracts for the past six years. I’d like to join your writer’s group because I finished The Artist’s Way recently and the book said that having a supportive group is essential for writers. I’ve started to outline the idea for my novel but I have never done this before and could definitely use some pointers. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

  55. Hello! My name is Jenny Simpson. I live in Austin and received my BA in English. It has been a life goal of mine to become a published author, and I am currently working on my first novel. I would love to join a supportive group of writers to learn from and gain feedback on my work. I have been actively working on my novel’s structure, plot, and character development (Mastering Suspense Structure & Plot by Jane K. Cleland is full of tips). Still, I would like to converse with seasoned writers on more specific aspects of writing. I am new to this and looking to learn as much as possible. This group seems like a great fit and I hope to meet other enthusiastic writers!

    • You have found the perfect group, Jenny. Please be on the lookout for an email from novelinprogressaustin.com, reply to confirm your email address, and I will send you the Invitation, E-Submission, and Meeting Handout for our next Roundtable on May 14th, 2023. We look forward to meeting you.

  57. Hi! I’m a twice published author currently working at a literary agency, and moonlighting as a developmental manuscript editor and contest judge for an online program. I’m still finishing up uni in Ireland. I just moved to Austin for the summer and would love to find a more relaxed, less sales-oriented community to talk about writing with (I miss my literary friends!) as well as a place to share my WIP, which I’m quite nervous about, as it’s my first step into writing thriller/horror.

    • Lily, please be on the lookout for an email from mail@novelinprogressaustin.com and reply as confirmation of your email address. I will follow up with the invitation,e-submission, and meeting handout for our next roundtable on July 9th. We look forward to meeting you.

  58. Hi!

I’m interested in joining as I’ve been working on a novel and have hit some writers block. I just need to get my creativity flowing and being surrounded by other writers has helped me in the past. I’m hoping this will help me get into the flow I need to move forward with my book

  59. Hi
I’m Irish living in Austin. I’ve always had an interest in writing. I have done a lot of writing and editing in a professional context and for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to explore writing a novel. I would love to connect with writers in Austin in order to motivate myself.

  60. I’m finishing the end of my first draft of a contemporary romance novel and would like/need feedback from a writer’s group before carrying on, so this seems like a great group to be a part of. Also love the writing community in Austin and always enjoy getting together with other writers even if its to talk for an hour and write for an hour.

  61. I would love to join this group. I am about 30,000 words into a science fiction novel and am calling in support for finishing the novel as well as community with other writers. Thank you!

  62. Hello, my name is David Delrie. I am currently in the process of working on a novel, and I would like to work with a group of other creatives who could give me feedback and also give me the opportunity to help them as well.

  63. Hi,

I am 24 years old and have lived in Austin for most of my life. I have a geology undergraduate degree and went to UT Austin for a geophysics graduate degree for one year but dropped out. Now I work for the state government doing environmental work. I love writing and have been writing for a long time but never had a community for it. I would love to meet new people and help them with writing and get help with my writing. My mom is a librarian and I have always read a lot, so I also have a good sense for what I like and what I’m interested in. I would love to get involved in the group!

  64. Well, like most people here I’ve been writing a book and would like to improve my writing, get some critiques and see what parts people like. I’ve been writing for about 20 years and it would be nice to have some fresh eyes on my work.

  65. Would like to join NIP. Tom Hogan. (tom@crowdedocean.com) Have written three novels and one business book. Am halfway through next novel, which an LA-based producer wants to develop.

  66. Hi! Since finishing my MFA program in 2020, I’ve really missed being a part of a community of writers. Right now I’m working through the second draft of a historical novel about a young college student in 1952 who masquerades as her male friend so that she can receive an archeological fellowship in Greece.

  67. I have written and revised a dark fantasy novel, and my goal is to get it published. I’m looking for feedback so I can get the thing in it’s best possible state! I think joining a community focused around this would be super helpful. There’s much strength to be found in working together (which funnily enough is a major theme in my book).

  68. Hello,

    My name Jacqueline Scott.

    My email is jnscott194@gmail.com

I’ve been a hobby writer all my life and I’m trying to improve my skill and motivate myself to finish projects. I’m also new to the area and seeking community.

  69. Hi,
I met your group at the Writing Workshop of Austin 3/1. I’d completed a novel queried 40 agents, had 40 passes. I’d had beta readers and a developmental editor before querying , but no interest. I’m taking it apart and revising the ms now. It’s a coming of age story set in the 60s. It’s been a lonely 4 years of learning the craft and writing the novel. I hope to connect with you and learn. Thank you for the opportunity to meet other writers in my community.
